Why I Chose Proverbs 31

When I was a teenager, there was this sweet older lady who went to my church. We all referred to her as “Grandma Angie”. She truly loved the Lord and was not shy about speaking her mind, she told it like it was.

One day we had a ladies’ testimonial day where women within the church and guests were allowed to share their salvation stories, of course, Grandma Angie was the first to volunteer.

I remember listening to her story and feeling my heart break for her younger self as she poured out her story to all of us. Hearing how God saved her was beautiful, tragic, and most of all wonderful.

Suddenly she stopped, locked eyes with me, pointed to me, and then turned and addressed my mom, saying, “That girl, God will use that girl for amazing things” Then she turned back to me and said “Read the book of Proverbs. There are 31 chapters in that book, and every month that has 31 days I want you to read that corresponding chapter. God will speak to you through them and will use you for great things”

There are seven months out of the year with 31 days.

What will God show you?

I’ll admit, I smiled to be polite but deep down I was thinking “This woman just called me out in front of 20 other women!” At the time I wasn’t sure what I believed in. Looking back I was a ‘going through the motions’, lukewarm, Christian.

I will further admit that it took me years to take her advice, and years after that to be consistent with it. I deeply regret not taking it seriously then, I often wonder about the blessings I missed out on by being so stubborn.

Proverbs 31:10-31 talks about how to be a virtuous woman, and not only do I aspire to be that, but I also want to conduct business virtuously. That is why I have integrated these verses throughout my website. They offer inspiration and hold me accountable to be a virtuous woman.
